1.Warming the channels to halt bleeding
This herb can be used to treat metrorrhagia and metrostaxis, threatened abortions, irregular menstruation, etc., which are types of cold and heat-deficient illness. It is often used in combination with Colla Corii Asini, Radix Rehmanniae, etc,. When treating hematemesis and epistaxis due to blood-heat, the crude herb can be used in combination with crude Cacumen Biotae, crude Radix Rehmanniae, or crude Folium Nelumbinis.
2.Dispersing cold and removing dampness
This herb can be used to treat abnormal leukorrhea due to cold uterus, irregular menstruation, abdominal pain, infertility,to name a few. It is often used in combination with Rhizoma Cyperi, Fructus Evodiae, Cortex Cinnamomi.
In addition, this herb can also be used for itchy skin, such as eczema. The herb can be prepared with Cortex Dictamni Radicis, Fructus Kochiae and the concoction can be used wash the local area. In treating retention of placenta due to coldness in the body, the parched herb can be applied to the hypogastrium while still hot. The herb can also be made into wool, applied on the acupoints and ignited. This will send heat into the tendons and bones so as to treat arthralgia due to cold. The herb is therefore the main material used in applying warming moxibustion.

ADMINISTRATION AND DOSAGE: Usually, 9 gm of the herb is used in preparation. The herb can also be used in external treatments. In dispersing cold and dampness and regulating the flow of Qi and blood, the crude herb is used. In warming the uterus, so as to stop bleeding, the carbonized drug is used.
